Melbourne, January 15. Meetings continue to be held approving of the action of Mr Service, and condemning the vacillating policy of Lord Derby. Sydney, January 15. At the banquet of West Maitland Mr Dalley vindicated che Government in the course pursued as regarded the New Guinea annexation. He said he was perfectly certain that any man who presumed on a public hustings to assert that any conduct on the paii of the Imperial Government had ever shaken our allegiance to the Empire would simply be covered with ridicule. When asked to join in a meaningless protest to endanger the relations of the Imperial Government, he felt at once he could on no grounds whatever dream of taking part in such a proceeding. After a hearing lasting some days, the jury found that the Coffee Palace was wilfully burned down, and found some persons unknown guilty of wilful murder and arson. A large meeting at Cookfcown passed a resolution against the policy of the Imperial Government in allowing Germany to annex a portion of New Guinea. The schooner Young Dick arrived ab Maryborough with a hundred recruits. She reporis that, near Malicolo island two settlers were trading for a German firm. One of them, an Englishman named Peters, was murdered. Four Kanaka employees were also murdered, and afterwards the surviving settler, a German, was surrounded and killed. Adelaide, January 15. Information has been received that a man named George King, who left Tennant's Creek, with five horses, died of thirst. The horses also are dead.
