The s.s. Oreti arrived from Hokitika yesterday afternoon. The Waipara arrived yesterday from Hokitika, and left the same day on her return trip to that port. The s.s. Kennedy arrived here yesterday afternoon, and ought to leave north to-day, unless the scarcity of coal prevents it. In consequence of the scarcity of coal the Charles Edward will not be able to leave before to-day, neither will some of the others. It is understood that Captain Williams, owner of the Black Diamond Line, has a steel steam vessel of 300 tons loaded up in pieces ready for transport to NeAv Zealand in one of the merchantmen trading between this colony and Home. He is also contemplating lengthening the Grafton. Captain Edwin Avired yesterday as folloavs : — Watch barometer ; bad weather is approaching from betAveen north-east and east and south ; glass further fall, and unusually loav tides during the next 3G hours.
