ANOTHER NEW STEAMER FOR THIS TRADE.

From a private letter from Captain Savory (late of the Energy) to Mr M. Kennedy, we learn the following particulars regarding a new steamer now in course of construction for Messrs Stone Bros., Auckland, and intended to trade between Greymouth and Auckland. Captain Savory has entered into a contract with Messrs Pearce Bros., of Dundee, to construct a steamer with steel hull and iron decks. The dimensions are to be 172 ft between perpendiculars, 181 ft over all, 28ft beam, and 13ft 2|in in depth of hold. The quarterdeck will be 25ft long and raised 3ft, the forecastle being 4ft high and 18ft long. The engines (compound surface condensing), 23in and 45in cylinder, length of stroke 30in, with 801 b pressure to the square inch. The hull will be doublebottomed from engine-room aft, where water-ballast will be carried, as also in a tank in the fore peak, with four watertight bulkheads. There will be accommodation for ten saloon passengers. The officers quarters will be under the bridge. She will carry 510 tons dead weight on a draft of lift. She is to be completely finished and handed over on the 30th June next.
