FALSE PRETENCES.
DrrxEDEf, January 15. An impudent case of obtaining goods under false pretences was heard at the City Court to-day! A young man, named George Luckhurst, went to several tradesmen and representing that he was in the employ of Dr Coughtrey, succeeded in being supplied with a complete outfit, presenting in each instance what purported to be a written order signed by the doctor. When that gpntleman was interviewed lie stated that he had never seen the accused, and gave no authority of the kind indicated to any person. So satisfied was one of the victims (a Mr Johnstone) with the bona fides of the transaction, and apparently so pleased at the prospect of a good day's sale, that he took the accused to a neighboring tradesman's shop and had him supplied with certain articles of clothing to be charged to his (Mr Johnstone's account. January 17. The Primitive Method st Conference is closed. It was resolved in view of an early union to discontinue the publication of the Primitive Methodist and to support the New Zealand Wedeyan.
