HOKITIKA V. GREYMOUTH BRIGADES' COMPETITION.
Hokitika, May 24. The competition betAveen the Hokitika and Grey Fire Brigades took place at 4.30. p.m. to-day, and resulted in Hokitika Avinning by a total of 9sec. [united press association.] The competition between the Hokitika and Grey Fire Brigades resulted in a victory to the former. The competition comprised setting up engine, running out 300 feet of hoso, erecting ladders, and crett.ingr «-:iter on the top of a parapet ; the best two trials out of three to win. The Hon James Bonar, Avas judge for the Hokitika team, and Mr H. L. Robinson, judge for the Greymouth team. Time. Hokitika, lmin. 20sec. and linin. 23sec ; Greymouth, lmin. 25sec. and lmin. 27sec. The silver cup Avas presented by tho | Mayor to Captain Michel for the Avinning team.
