Mabsden — Caneronian, or 26th re.aiment of the line, firsb raised from west counbry people, Ayrshire, &c, in 1689. BUck Watch, or 42nd i.gimont of the line, first r.iiaed from tho Campbells, Frasers, Grants, and Munros, about 1750. The Highland Ke^imenti are nfne in number, viz. : — Black Watch, 420 d; Highland Light Infantry, 71sb, 72ud, and 74th ; Rosahire Buffß, 78th j Cameron Highlanders, 79bh ; Argyleshiro Highlanders, 91sb ; Gordon Highlanders, 92nd ; Subherlani Highlanders, 93rd. At first the Black Watch was known in the flighlands bofore being incorporated as a regiment as the " sidior dhu," and the Indopendeat Companies of the Black Waboh.
