MINING NEWS.

BEEFTON. . We take the following from the lnangahua Herald of the 18th instant : — Just-in-Time. — A couple of weeks have 'passed since the crushing was brought to a close. A number of men have been employed securing the recent workings, who have also got out about 95 tons of quartz. Whilst at this mine yesterday, the faces were from a few inches to close on six feet wide, and showing the usual quantity of gold. This company at present intend resuming crushing operations about the second Monday in next month, Fiery Cross.— During the past few week 3 the extension of the lowest tunnel has been proceeded with, and the distance now attained, and since restarting work after the Christmas holidays, is 150 feet, out of that' distance the lode has been followed about 120 feet. The stone is looked upon as highly payable. When the reef had been traced about 100 feet, a fault occurred, or the block ran out, and the driving was carried throgh blank ground for a distance. It is my pleasing duty to have to inform the shareholders that a block is now being developed, fully equal to that previously obtained. The contract for driving the low level is about completed, and a further similar distance has been let, which will be gone on with so soon as the party now in possession ; have finished. Thirty-five feet have been sunk in the present contract for sinking the company's winze to the low level tunnel, a depth of 60 feet. Welcome. — The construction of the intermediate and No. 6 levels is proceeding as speedily as the country through which the levels are being carried, will admit. There is some mention that after the contractors have completed their contract in the intermediate level, the company will start to open out and raise quartz.
