Napier, March 17. The Jockey Club first day's meeting today was highly successful. His Excellency and Lady Robinson were present, and about 2500 people were on the ground. Maiden Plate, of 60 soys. ; distance, 1^ miles — Farmer's Paramena, 1 ; Ray's Saunterer, 2; Walters' Grand Duchess, 3. Humprey's Darkie, Shaiah, and Wairoa also started. Railway Stakes, of 20 soys. ; weight for age ; distance, | mile — Walters's Billingsgate, 1 ; Powdrell's Hero, 2 ; Merlin, 3. Napier Handicap, of 200 soys. ; distance, lj miles — Keith's Soukar, 1 ; Empire. 2 ; M'Donald's Merlin, 3. Corinthian Cup, of 40 soys. ; 2 miles ; gentlemen riders — Ray's Romeo, 1 ; Hapuka's Pahau, 2 ; Walter's Billingsgate, 3. The Hack Race wa3 won by Kangaroo, against whom the betting in the totalisator was 45 to 1.
