An official statement of Admiral Amont, of the United States navy, declares that the Panama route is impracticable. The Goodwood Stakes — Isonomy, 1 ; Bear, 2 ; Parole, 3. A supplementary army estimate was asked for the Zulu war of L 3,000,000, which converts the surplus shown in the budget into a deficit of L 1,163,000,, 163,000, which the African Colonies reimburse. The deficit is proposed to be met by Treasury bonds.
