The amount of the verdict in the case of Manning v. New Zealand Insurance Company was, with costs added, L 1345. The money has been paid.
The New Guinea Expedition landed at Port Moresby. All the party is well and in excellent spirits.
A large deputation of natives requested the protection oi the Queensland Government. The combined prospecting parties pro-
I ceeded to Lalokie river, 14 mile 3 from Port Moresby. The natives are quiefc and trading. They assisted the expedition to land.
The Europeans have appointed Mr Jones, an old prospector, leader, and Mr Harvan, Judge and Warden. A committtee was appointed to draw up regulations, for Lyuch law to be used against any person committing outrages on the natives. The Goldie aid party got within a mile of Broten Island, where the relics of a party murdered by natives were found The latter flourished rifles, sounded war conches, and the war cry. No landing was effected.
