The schooner Zephyr, from Hokitika, Was towed up from Hokitika yesterday morning by the Lioness, and was then brought to the wharf by the Dispatcq to the wharf. The b.B Wallabi sailed for Westport and Wanganui last night. There was no signs of the Arawata at Hokitika last night when the telegraph office closed. - The -Anchor Line steamnr Charles Edward will leave for Westport, Nelson, and - Wanganui, this day, at 11 pm, and the s s Murray, on Friday, the 14th inst. A Waitara correspondent has famished the following to the Taranaki Budget on the 4th inst. :— •' On Wednesday last the natives * at Aahi observed an empty boat about one mile from he shore ; but being in dread lest dead bodies should be aboard, they had not the courage to go out to pick it up. ' The . following <Uy it was seen of Onairo, when a native Bv:un out and brought it ashore. From the description of the boat by the natives, it is evidently the gig of a large ship; wi;h the exception of one plank, ' which has been stove, it is in good order. Some i'lea of the work done by those splendid steamers that bridge the Atlantic may be gathered from the following particulars of a "round trip," accomplished in very fast time by the City of Chester. This . vessel left New York on October 13 with a heavy cargo, and, after discharging at Liverpool, reloaded, and reached the starting place at 1* a.m., on November 7, the double journey . r> aing thus accomplished in three weeks— fn -it time in the best season, but exceptionally bo during the period of the year whea the trip was performed.
