[press agency.] Auckland, May 13. The City of Melbourne has arrived, bringing English news by cable to London May 4. Belgium's reply to the second diplomatic note from Germany has been communicated to the Chambers. It promises to follow the initiative of Germany, and to bring about a modification of the law. A resolution for the suppression of religious orders has been introduced into the Prassian Diet. Freeman is the winner of the Chester Cup. The Pope is suffering from weakness. The May wool sales have opened, the quantity catalogued being 294,000 bales ; upwards of 600 bales were offered. There was a large attendance, and the competition brisk, prices reigning about the same as those of last season. The sales terminate in June 19th, and the third series commence on August 18. The 6fth series has been abandoned. The Australian mail via San Francisco has been delivered in London.
