REMARKABLE RESULT OF MEDIUM COMNUNCIATIONS.

In an affiliation case, Louden v. Philips, heard at Sandurst, there was elicited, according to the "Bendigo Advertiser," " pome rather curious and interesting circumstances showing the peculiar influences which are at work when the opposite sexes assemble at meetings of the spirits. According to the evidence adduced before the Bench, it appeared that the complain-ant—-a young lady of sweet 16, and of spiritualistic proclivities — had met the defendant—a young gentleman formerly a resident well known in this city— at one of the spiritual seances, which some 12 months since were so popular in Sandhurst. On leaving the meeting, at the advanced hour of one in the morning, the young lady was accompanied to her home by defendant, and although their acquaintance had only commenced at the spiritual meeting, the young lady — no doubt still under the influence of medium communications, and of those softening deas engendered by the communion with the visitors from dream land — was induced to make subsequent appointments with the gentleman. On those occasions their lonely, romantic, and, no doubt, spiritual walks were extended to the rural locality of the Back Creek Cricket-ground. On one occasion, while wandering and meandering there, they were overtaken by a thunderstorm, and took refuge in the pavilion, or, as the young lady's advocates in court drew the poetic parallel, " they sought the retreat of the pavilion as did iEneas and Dido, of classic antiquity, in the grotto, when threatened with the war of the elements." With the

modern hero and heroine, however, the same result did not occur ; the spiritual influence was not sufficiently active, and they parted to meet again some other night. The lady's heart was, however, softened, and she acceded to the gentleman's entreaties. Hence the action above referred to." We learn from the " Bendigo Evening NeAvs " that the magistrate at the Sandhurst City Police Court on Saturday made an order for the defendant to pay 10s. per week.
