Christchurch.— The "Ljttelton Times" of Saturday last makes the following report: No transactions in wheat have come under our notice dining the week.- The ship Wen- ■ nington and s.s. Atrato sail next week, and both take large quantities of wheat and flour, a portion of the Atrato's cargo beiug for the Cape of Good Hope. These shipments will tend to give a better tone to our market, and, as millers' stocks are low, we look for an improvement in the value ofwheat during the spring. Oats are getting scarce, and any parcels coming to market find ready purchasers at an advance on late quotations. Of barley all good samples are out of the market, and inferior and discolored lots are going into consumption for feeding purposes. Inflohra good business is doing in this article at last week's quotations. Bran and sharps are in good inquiry and stocks held by millers are low ; prices, however, are unaltered. Quotations— Wheat, nominal, at 4s 6d to 4s 86. ; oats, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; barley, 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; fluir Lll 10s, 100's Ll2 10a, 50's 10s extra, f o.b. bran. L 5 15s ; pollard, L 5 15s ; fine sharps, L 6 15s, 10s extra, f.o.b. Cheese is in fair inquiry ; we quote 6d to G£d, the latter for extra prime samples. Butter is still in small Bupply, owing to the scarcity of feed. Hams and bacon are in good demand at last week's rates, viz,, bacon and hams, B£d in cloth ; hams only, lid; bacon only, 7£d, f.o.b. in Lyttelton. Potatoes are coming forward slowly: we quote L 4 10s as the value at Christchurch railway station. Again we have to report a quiet week in the stock and stations market, although the return of spring seems to have infused a little more spirit into the dealings which have taken piacfi. — craTrecmeaaay— Micro - n« a fan entry of sheep, some of very excellent quality, notably a let of merino wethers, fed on turnips, by Mr H. F. Gray. These were unquestionably the best merinos which have been offered for sale for many months, and accordingly they were eagerly competed for, the price reached being 17s Another lot of merino wethers, tussock fed, reached 20s, and others ranged downwards, according to quality. Our quotation for mutton, this week, is 3£d per Ib. The cattle yards were moderately filled, and for all classes the demand was good. The quality of the fat cattle offered was very indifferent, the only animals really fat being old cows. Anything of moderate quality brought 30s per 1001 b, which is our quotation for this week, but we fully expect to see beef go still higher before the ena of next month. Store cattle are in limited supply, and command full rates.
