THE Grey River Argus PUBLISHED DAILY. SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1874.

The debate upon the "Province Administrative Bill " has been adjourned until Monday next, but it is stated that a majority of the Council have decided to support amendments which will have the effect of enabling the Superintenient to act with the advice of an Executive Council. It would have been interesting to know what these amendments actually are, but as the Hokitika journals do not mention them, and we have failed to receive a copy, we are to some extent in the dark. It appears, however, that the Council is not inclined to leave too much power in the hands of the Superintendent; and, whilst they are about settling the division of responsibility, it would perhaps be as well to pass a resolution requesting that the delegated powers under the Goldfields and other Acts shall be exercised uanCunonti j-kix^anf « wUh j-.ha .advice of his Executive Council, as is the case in Otago and elsewhere. Otherwise they may find the Superintendent doing what a iate County Chairman was in the habit of doing — putting himself entirely above the Council,- and exercising irresponsible powers.
