The Pleasant Greek News says ; — "Very^B decided action has been taken lately b}^B the Stawell quartz-crushersj in referenc^H to the jumped claim known as No i Nortb^H Scotchman's, which has been the sourc^H of great excitement and litigation. Th^H new company formed in the interests o^M the jumpers have latterly been raisin^H stone, but the crushing companies have^H one and all, positively refused to crush it^H This may be taken as a pretty strong ex^H pression of opinion here as to the merib^| of the celebrated ' jumps,' It is under-^H stood that this claim is still in litigatioq^H and that proceedings concerning it wil^^l shortly be resumed in the law courts." The Church of England Assembly o^H Victoria has fixed the salary of the Bisho^H of Ballarat at LlOOO per annum, am^H named that of the Bishop of Melbourne a^H L2OOO. These are the prizss of tbechurch^H and they are to be given outside of th^H colony. It is expressly ordered that the^H high offices in question shall be conferrei^H on such English clergymen as can be pre^H vailed to give up their prospects for colonial bishopric, and our own rainisteri^^l are placed outside the pale of selection a^H a kind of inferior article. Any clergymai^H who comes to Victoria to take charge of a^^| parish, or who enters the church in Vic^H oria, will, in future, subscribe to a con^H fession of inferiority, and admit that it i^^| right that he should be passed over whe^^| its highest honors come to be awarded^^B He will be doomed to obscurity and ai^^B average salary of L3OO per annum^H Toung men of parts, one imagines, willb^^B rather apt to serve their Maker and thei^^l felloe-man in those paths of life where n^^H stigma is cast upon them because* they an^^B colonial, and thus the pulpit power of th^^H church will be seriously weakened. Th^^H assembly is quiet enough ; but could th^^H congregations be directly consulted, the^^H would hardly allow the status of the^^H ministers to be lowered, even in order i^^^l
