THE BRUNNER MINE.

[to the editor.] Snt. — In your issue of Friday last a letter appeared, signed, and supposed to be written, by the men working in the Brunner Ocal-mine. According to contents the reasons assigned by the miners for the tecent strike may be said principally to hinge on the first clause of their objection, viz., the danger attached to any new system of working the mine. This I can prove to be quite unfounded. The only danger appeared in the place of meeting and before the ey9s of the uninitiated public ; in fact, thi3 imaginary danger was made stock of in order to' give some apparently reasonable cause for further objections. As to any real danger that can accrue by the ne» plan proposed by me, I can challenge any mining engineer to settle the point between us. A little extra work may be involved by the new system in the way of filling, &c, which of course simply implies a larger supply of coal, consequently more constant .work, which, in my humble opinion, would fully counterbalance any slight reduction in the first cost. Hitherto the miners have had the good fortune to escape any serious mishaps ; any previous accidents that have occurred may be traced to the old, system of high drives, which seems to be so much approved of by the present miners. In hopes that you will insert this, lain, <£c., / : ; ..'",' Jambs Oadman. Brunnerton> Feb. 16, 1874. •.
