[Anglo-australian press telegraph AGENCY.] Ahaura, Oct. 25. After giving the required notice to the parties concerned, the Magistrates gave I judgment in the case of Hayden v. Potts, thi3 morning. The points of law raised for the defence were overruled, and the defendant was commitße*d for trial before the Supreme Court, Hokitika. Wellington, Oct. 25. Negotiations for purchasing the " Inde pendent" by the new Newspaper Com. pany are unsettled. Yesterday the Provincial Government purchased 103,000 acres from Native owners, between Wainui and Manawatu. Negotiations for larger purchases are progressing. Hunt, one of the Rifle Representatives, won the Company's gold, medal to-day. It is understood that the William Tapscott prisoners will be forwarded per Alhambra to-morrow morning. It is not known whether the Governor's consent has been obtained before leaving for Auckland.
