Prior to the passing of the Constitution Act, the sum total for the eleven years 1842 to' 1852 inclusive was L35,268.-Since then, it will be interesting to note the revenue of each year, which is given below in a tabulated form. :— '.'-'.''..[., . .Mr Staffordls. . Total for the four years, L 444 ,624. From this it will be seen that the total . amount of revenue for Provincial purposes raised in Nelson (exclusive of road rates) since the electiou of the first Superintendents L 1,452,640. Nearly a million and a half of money, and yet what is the state of the Province at the present moment? It is scarcely necessary to 'answer the question, for every man in the place can find only too ready a reply to it
James Birdwood was killed while working at the Pumping Association, Thames. He was the. son. of a judge at Madras/and was discarded by, his family on account of his marriage.
