Dunedin. — The Daily Times, of the 30th ulfc, reports as follows :— Although so close to the end of th« year, there has been a steady business doing during the part oj the week not given up to holidays, and more animation has been observable among houses doing an uprcountry business than has been the case for some weeks previously. importers' transactions have not, however, been heavy, or furnished anything of particular interest. Breadstuffs have not altered during the last few days, nor is $here any immediate indication of change. Rates are now ruled within, rather than from outside, the market, ami much of the opportunity formerly afforded for speculative operations is put off ; therefore, these transactions are both fewer and more out of sight than when values were regulated otherwise. In malt liquors then** has been a litili doing, but only ' in bottled stouts and ales, bulk beers coinmauding no attention. Genevas and whiskies maintain the improvement previously noticed, and the intelligence pf reduced shipments hag rendered the values of brandies tirtner, though no actual change jn prices has taken place. Sugars a^d teas have been quitted at maintained rates, and some fair-sized parcels have been shipped. r ]?ke Janet Stewart, to hand from the Mauritius, has brought the third cargo of new season's sugars ; the arrival has not affected values, but will probably keep private transactions small for th« next few days. In kerosene no sales have come under notice, but holders demand 3s 3d. Cornsacks reniain. without improvement. Some small sales of hams and bacon have been made at or near 14d, and butter and cheese are, if anything, slightly better. In other goods the variations call for no special notice, and quotations are, for all important items, the same as at the commencement of tho week.
