GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.
(To the Editor of the Grey River Argus. ) Sib— The Bombastes Furioao style adopted by Mr Harry Kenrick in his reply to statements made at the late meeting fairly goes to prove the anomaly of civil servants taking part in matters muiiicipal or political, 'anii-I say that it is impossible when party questions are on the tapis, that parties who may require information or be thrown in '/contact with such officials to expect them to divest themselves of the antagonistic feelings that are engendered by politics ; therefore I think that they should have sufficient judgment arid withdraw as they are aware the public see the matter in is true j light. Mr Kenrick acknowltges that he i j sent a policeman to Mrs-^ Oakes^, 1 1 would like to know by whose authority Mr Kenrick makes use of the police on mat* ters private, and ask if he does not thiiik it is likely to bring the aiithtirities into contempt when they find, the police used as a kind of coercive institution in private matters. As regards section affair I can only say that it i&ffcme the law was -denned on the subject as it is the loop holes are too great for ever a surveyor to be caught in, and in the next Province the. official dodge as descended as low as the police' constables speculating in allotments. However this stir is quite opportune, as I believe the recommendations of the Civil Service Commission are. under the consideration of the General Government, :l they will no doubtfcee the necessity of adopting the Victorian :?pnnraple"to this tservice.— lanv&c. -■■.■''^';- y 'y' ■h', : :. .:.::'::: •:.■ . ..;.■;' _.:.;,- ■.: : :;.R.-'Poolb.
