Chjristciiurch.— The Press of the 4th' inst. reports :-— The transactions of the past week have been of the mbst^liinited character, buyers holding over their purchases until after the 4th of the month. There has been no change in values. Money still continues scarce for business transactions, although plenty is in the market for investment in landed properpertie.";- The grain market is being eased by several large purchases for shipment, and also to hold for speculation, as it is confidently looked for that the present, low prices cannot rule much longer. Wheat '. averages 3s. to 3s 3d per bushel... A good many samples changed hands on Saturday last .it. these quotations. Oats of fair quality "are quitted at 2s 9d, best heavy samples at 3a ; light and inferior at 2s 6d. Barley is rather duller of sale, and very few hits have changed hands ; 4s to 4s Cd are the prices bffered by* the brewera^and malsters, but 5s have been given by exjjorters for best qualities. Peas are offered freely, but the prices .remain steady at • otir last week's quotations. The flour market remains without alteration, and but little, seeming prospect of improvement. Potatoes for immediate, delivery fetch L 4 per: ton; hay remains very firm in price, and is likely to advance as winter approaches, as the stocks in hand are not large. A considerable number of cattle were yarded on Saturday at Messrs Wilson and Alport's, and Olliver and Co. 's. Nearly all the lo bs were quitted at lotted prices. The difficulty in providing feed for store cattle at present deters purchasers from buying.
