She found. np,t less than fourteen feet of water in the channel, which is now quite stfaight. The Io left Melbourne on the 1 6th ult., experienced a strong gale in the .Straits, thence light winds and moderatgl.T( r e.ather. : Made the land south of Hokitika oiiTuesday, arrived off the Grey, yesterday morning, aud was towed in by th.c .pis-patch in the evening. By her we have two days latter papers, from Melbourne. The schooner John and Jane left Melbourne the same d.ay as the I*>, and experienced the same -wcathep. She inaclc the land on Monday, and was towed fa -"pesfcerday by the p. s, Persevere.
