Although tho trade done during the week has not been, large, there has been a visible improvement, in its tone. At auction, the ! prices realized for breadstuffs show an in- , crease in tho value of fiour.of at least £1 per j .tori, with an upward tendency. Adelaide is valued at £23 to £25 per ton ; Oalifornian, £20 to £21 ; but Chilian still remains neglected. Horsefeed has likewise improved, more especially oats, which may now be quoted at 7s to 7s Cd per. bushel. Chaff, £30 to £32 per ton. In Spirits, brandies continue to advance, the stocks still being light. Hennessy's, in bulk, 10s Gd to 11s, in bond ;" Martell's, 9s Gd to 10s ; other brands, 9s. Gin has likewise an upward tendency, there being no sellers under 58s per case duty paid. A demand has sprung up for rum, but tho market is quite bai % c of that article. Good port wines arc in steady request at last week's quotations. . Case porter is. unaltered in value, 17s to ISs, duty paid, for first brands, and lGs to 17s for second. " In pro. visions, hams and bacon arc still good stock, and are yet value at la 2d to Is 4d perlb. Butter,- good quality of Nelson or Wellington, 2s 3d to 2s 4d per lb for a parcel. Cheese, Port Cooper, Is 4d to Is 5d per lb. Sugars have not as yet participated in the advance quoted, of 25s to 20s per ton in the Australian markets, a timely supply having come to hand, and Mauritius white crystals cannot be quoted over £54 to £56 per ton, duty paid ; brown do, £52 to £54. Candles contiuuc a scarce commodity, and readily bring Is 7d to Is 8d per lb. for full weights.
