We understand that a petition is being circulated for signature, praying that the town of Greymouth be erected into a municipality in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Ordinance 18G4-. As we have reason to believe that some misapprehension exists concerning the nature of the Ordinance and of the steps required to procure its application, to the town, we may state for the public information that according to the. Ordinance, any township containing not less than 200 householders may petition to be created a municipality. But the petition "must be signed by not less than 100 householdeks, and unless a counter petition of a like number be presented the Superintendent may accede to the application. As we undei'stand the petition nowbeing circulated has been signed by many who are not householders, we tlunk ib well to remind the promoters of the memorial that such signatures do not fulfil the conditions of the Ordi. nance, and are to all practical intents invalid. As it would be a pity for any delay to occur that is capable of being obviated, it would be well that the provisions' of the Ordinance be strictly ■ complied with.
