it is reported to be the intention of some one interested in the trade between Canterbury and the Chatham Islands to put on a steamer shortly. It is considered there would, generally speaking, be sufficient inducement to justify undertaking with a small steamer a monthly service. The brigantine Island Lily, which arrived from Newcastle on Monday night, was but ■'a few hours over nine days on the passa-ge. Captain Cooper reports meeting with fresh. N.E. and northerly winds from the Australian coast to New Zealand, with thick rainy weather. The Island Lily will leave in a few days for Chatham Islands. THE HURtTNTJI.
