MR IVESS, M.H.R., AT ASHBURTON.
[By Telegraph.]
[from TUB “ PRESS.”] ASHBTJBTON, December 4.
Mr J. Ivess, member for Wakanui, addressed a well-attended meeting of his constituency in the Town Hall, this evening. The Mayor, Mr D.. Williamson, was in the chair. Mr Ivess’ speech consisted principally of a review of the work done during the past session. He spoke against the policy of the present Government, and accused them of not keeping the promises they had made. He also spoke of his own action in Parliament, and regretted he had not been able to do more for his own particular district, but trusted that what he had done would meet with their approval. After Mr Ivess sat down Mr St, Hill moved a vote of confidence in the member for Wakanui.
Mr Hughes ascended the platform to move an amendment. After his remarks there was considerable uproar. Mr Ivess replied, and on Mr St. Hill’s motion being put - it was carried.
