[per press association .1 AUCKLAND, December 5. Mair’s remains have been recovered, and •are to be brought to New Zealand. The Government intend laying off a township at Kawhia Harbor early next month, on a piece of land purchased two years ago by the Government. It is also intended to buoy the harbor, that it may be used as a harbor of refuge. DUNEDIN, December 5.
It is now definitely known that the Hon. Ivo Bligh’s team will not visit Now Zea'deputation have waited on Mr Johnston re Caldwell’s removal. The Hon. Minister replied that the changes were .made in the interests of the public service, and he could not hold out any hope of his retention here. In McNamara s case the deputation urged that the facts were not fully represented to Government. Mr Johnston recommended the deputation sending up a memorial. The police to-day have secured convictions for raffling horses, and intend proceeding against the managers o, the Beneolent Carnival lor holding lotteries.
