CANTERBURY ROWING CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the above club was held last evening at Warner’s Commercial Hotel. There was a full attendance, forty-one members being present. Mr A. P. N, Blakiston was voted to the chair.

The annual report was read, by which it appeared there are now on the roll 124 working members, twenty-one honorary, and six life members. Twenty-eight working members were elected daring the year. Regret was expressed at tho death of Mr G. L. Mellish, one of the vioepresidents. The work of removing the shed entailed a cost of £ -’49 Is 8d ; that tne breastwork had been continued round to the bridge, and necessary platforms had been completed ; that a mortgage for £3OO at 8 per cent, had been arranged, to cover which twenty shares have been taken np in the Permanent Investment Association ; that most of the working members had paid the extra subscription or 10s, which had produced £4l 10s ; that the last annual ball gave a profit of £ll Is. Daring the season the dab has been represented at the Akaroa, Lyttelton, Heath cote, and Kaiapoi regattas, and with some success, as the total amount _ won (£6l) shows. The third annual race with the Otago Cowing Club took place on the Estuary on the 6th of April, and resulted in a victory for your representatives. Tour committee consider that a like annual race with the Star Bowing Club, of VeUmgtcm, might be arranged with great advantage to both clubs. The club races daring the past season have hardly been the sncceas they she nil have been, considering the number of rowing members in the dnb and the value of the prises offered. The stock of oars and sculls on hand are sufficient for the coming season. An outrigged racing four-oar and two stamp pain are expected to arrive early in the season from England. Mr Thomas, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, spoke favorably of\ - the {nation of the club, comparing its present position with its position when he first knew it twenty yesrs ago.
