INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the committee of the above association was held at the rooms, at 7 30 last evening. Present —Messrs Howland (in the chair), Halo, D. Reese, England, H. B, Kirk, Ourlett, Milaom, Banks, Jenkins, W. S. King, Toomer, and Ford. The Chairman said a letter was being drafted by the secretary in the matter of the proposed bonus for linseed oil and twine. Apologies were made for the non-attendance of Messrs Waller, Sheath, Jones, and Ross The President congratulated the committee on the satisfactory nature of the telegrams from Mr H Thomson, M.H.8., re revision of the railway tariff, and alio the further information furnished by Mr I. Wilson, M.H.B. A letter was read from Mr A. H. Maclean re hia charge against the ex-president of the association. Mr D. Reese pointed out that as Mr McLean’s letter did not contain any special charge against the late president, and that the resolution of the last meeting of committee provided that such should be done, Ho would move—“ That as Mr Maclean has failed to prefer a definite charge against the late president of this association, and as the resolution asking for a specific charge has not been complied with, tho matter be allowed to drop.” Mr F. Jenkins seconded the motion.

Mr W. S. King contended that the general terms contained in Mr McLean’s letter reflected on the late president, which he should have a chance of rebutting.

Mr England contended that it was no charge, seeing it was too vague. Mr Oorlett thought the matter should be considered in justice to all parties. At the request of Mr Banks, the letter was again read, and as the writer virtually “ declined to prosecute” The resolution was then put to the vote, and carried by 7 to 3. Mr Maclean being in attendance, wifi then called iu and made acquainted with the result.

On the motion of Mr D. Reese, seconded by Mr England, it was unanimously resolrid —“That tho salary of tho secretary be £3O per annum.” It was also agreed to reinvest the funds of the association to the greatest passible advantage. Mr B. J. Hale referred to the proposed action respecting tho bonus for manufacture of twine for reapers and binders, and it was ultimately agreed— “ That the resolution passed at the last meeting re bonus for twiro, be altered to road 23 tans, instead of 100 tons.”

It was agreed to postpone the West Goes railway dircuveicn till next meeting.

Mr H. B Kirk called attention to the fact that certain materials used in the manufacture of saddles, viz., stiaiEing web, saddlers' serge, and collar check, is charged ad valorem duties by the Outturns, whilst upholsterers’ web is admitted free of duty. It was not likely that these items would bo manufactured in the colony for some time, and as ■addle making was assuming large proportions here it was advisable that the Government be asked to admit the tame duty free.
