Contrary to expectation, the month has not opened up with the briskness usually characteristic of this season of the year, and beyond a few sorting np and station orders, has been unusually dull. Probably when the elections are oyer business will meet with more attention. Ales and stout have had small enquiry. Quotations are now firmer owing to redaction of stocks. Sales are noted at 12s 6d and 12a respectively. Brandy has attracted attention on account of the low rates accepted to effect sales, and has been quitted at prices piling lower than cost. Whiskey being excessive in stock, is being offered at reduced rates without finding buyers. Port and sherry remain neglected, but later on will doubtless see more business Claret has had enquiry for good sorts, stocks of which are limited; low to medium find ready sale. Champagne, except at tempting rates, meets -with little sale; superior serts find buyers in limited lots at fair prices. are getting scarce, and shipments to arrive being sparing, are more eagerly sought after. Salmon was quitted at auction on Tuesday at about 5a 6d, the shipment being irregular was quitted, “ with all faults,” sound parcels command 7s 9d to Bs. Kerosene has had buyers at la 9d. Boiled and raw oils find steady sale at 4s 3d and 4s respectively. Castor has suffered a decline, stocks being beyond requirements. Lard oil, on account of high figure, required to cover cost, is only bought for immediate wants. Holders are firm, as future shipments are only obtainable at an advance. Woolpacks have hud small sales at 3s 3d, the bulk of requirements being satisfied. Corneacks are neglected, though stocks are not excessive, and the demand will probably be unusually large should the present favorable weather continue. Teas, except at low rates, meet with little attention ; quotations outside are hardening, so prices here mast soon be affected; stocks, though excessive, are in favor of holders. _Eica of good quality has found buyers at fair prices, low kinds are unsaleable. A shipment of Calcutta just to hand has failed to find buyers. The 4th passed off fairly, but not so well as should be, considering the absence ef speculation and abundance of money.
