SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A meeting of (the Carloton school committee was held on Monday evening. Present—Messrs EL. Engelbrecht (chairman), W. W. Webb, John Bkurr, Hudson, Little, H. Bteffecs. The Chairman explained that there had been no meeting of the committees during the month of November, in consequence of the number of meetings held in the neighborhood by the various candidates for the honor of representing the Ashley district in the House of Representatives. Accounts were passed for payment, amounting to £46 5s lid. The Inspector's report on school examination on October 19th waa read. The following percentage of children passed the various standards—V., 1; IV., 2 j 111., 18; 11., 11; 1., 13 ; infants, 6. Percentage of the school presented in standards, 86 J- ; total number presented, 44; not presented, 7 ; failed, 3 ; passed, 41 ; percentage passed, 93'. The inspector in his general remarks stated that the sohool had passed a very satisfactory examination, and the energy and efficiency o£ the teaohers were highly commended.—A oircular letter was reccsived from the Longbeach school committee re the inadequate provision for incidental expenses, also letter from the Bast Oxford school committee asking for the co-operatioo of this oomnr.ttee regarding petition. It was resolved that the school break up for the Christmas ,holiday* on the 23rd instant, and reassemble on January 3rd, 1882. The committee then adjourned. The South Bakaia school committee held its usual monthly meeting on Tuesday morning; present all the members. The master's report was read and received.. It was resolved—" That an entertainment be arranged for, to take place on the 22nd inst., the proceeds to be devoted for a picnic for the school to be held on the 23rd." The chairman reported that ha had written to the Board about the sohool fence, and also asking for another door to the infants' room, but no reply had been received. It was resolved that permission be given to the neighbors to out down trees in the plantations, provided it [bo done to the satisfaction of the chairman. The inspector's report was read and adopted, it being satisfactory. There were present on the day of examination, 137 j percentage of passes, 85.

Meters Ohatto and Wlnduß have in the press two volumes entitled " Stories from the State Papers," by A. C. Ewald, of the Becord Office. Messrs Chatto and WinduH will publish a new volume by Mark Twain. Ita title is " Prince and Pauper," and it will be fully illustrated in the style of " A Tramp Abroad."
