A fire in Symonds' street this morning destroyed Tyre's store, Qilmour's store, and Lincoln's cottage. Tho insurances are— Tyre's stook, £BOO in the Now Zealand Ofiice ; the building, £550 in the Standard ; Gilmour's stock, £I2OO in the United (reinaured £3OO each in the Union, Northern, and Norwich Union) ; building, £450 in the Standard ; Lincoln's cottage, £2OO in the Standard. PUNGAREHU, December 8. The Constabulary. The camp was shifted at Farihaka yesterday, and road work will soon be oommenced. The men stationed here hare already began between Parapara and Parihaka. It is stated that they are to have Is per day on the road, as the duty is not heavy. The officers get 2s 6d per diem. Several recruits have already got tired of the force, and have asked for their discharge. WELLINGTON, Deoember 8. Court of Appeal.

The following judgments were given in the Appeal Court this morning:—District Land Registrar v Mitchelson (Auckland), appeal dismissed with costs; Rioh and another v Whitaker (Auckland), appeal allowed with costs and leave given to reply. In the case of Wi Hironga, an appeal from the Native Lands Court, G-isborne, the appeal was allowed with costs. The Court adjourned until this afternoon. DUNEDIN, December 8. Mr Pyke. Mr Pyke writes to the " Times " that the offer of a seat in the Legislative Council was made to him by Mr Herbert, of Lawrenoe. The Wool Market. Messrs Murray and Roberts have received the following cablegram, December sth : " Wool market weaker. Greasy has declined 5 to 7$ per cent. TIMARU, December 8. Electoral. Mr E. Wakefield met the eleotors at Oeraldine last night. There was a very rowdy meeting, a few persons making continuous disturbances. A vote of thanks was proposed and rejected. BALOLUTHA, Deoember 8. Fatal Accident. While two young girls, daughters of Mr Alexander Ironside, coach proprietor, were yesterday afternoon playing with a raft in a water-hole, both fell in. One managed to scramble out, but the other, seven years of age, was drowned.
