LYTTELTON COLONISTS’ SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the committee of this Bociety was held on Wednesday nisht. A number of accounts were passed for payment, some new by-laws adopted, and several newspapers and periodicals struck from the list of those taken. Since January Ist the library and reading-room hare been closed, excepting for an hour or two each night, and altogether closed as to non-subscribers. That most commendable feature of the society's institution, a reading-room stocked with reference books, home and colonial newspapers and serials, accessible to seafaring men free of charge, has thus been cut off, and the chief work of the committee on Wednesday night was to bring the expenses within the revenue derived from the present handful of subscribers. A sub committee was appointed to revise the rules, their report to bo laid before a general meeting of the subscribers, and it was decided that the premises should be open in future only from 7 p.m. to 9.35 daily, Sundays excepted.
