HAREWOOD ROAD SCHOOL.

The annual school treat to the children belonging to this school was held in the school ground on Thursday, the Bth inatant, when the children, together with a good many of their parents and friends, and several visitors, assembled at 2 p.m. The games usual on such occasions were entered into with spirit, and at about four o’clock tea was announced, the tables being laid in the schoolroom, which was very tastefully decorated with evergreens and flowers. After the children’s tea the tables were re-laid for the adults, a large number of whom collected during the afternoon. The provisions and arrangement of the tables, it is almost needless to say, were excellent, reflecting great credit on those ladies of the district who presided over them. The committee, in accordance with established custom, took advantage of the occasion to distribute the prizes gained at the yearly examination to the successful competitors, the examination having been ■ conducted by the Bev. Mr Gumming and Mr Foster. The Bev. Mr Brittan, at the request of the committee, gave away the prizes, with a brief congratulation to each prizetaker, and also a few words of kindly encouragement to those who were not so fortunate.

The following is the prize list: — Class I (Upper division). —1, Thomas Nunweek and Eliza J. Durey, equal ; 2, Richard Stanley; 3, William Bobbin. Lower division — 1, Martha Stanley; 2, Harriet Nnnweek; 3, Jane Rountree. Class ll.—l, Emily Durey; 2, George Somer- .• set; 3, Edith Stanley. Class lII.—I, John Sonthon ; 2, Frank Bob■bin ; 3, Catherine Dobbs. Class IV. —l, Maggy Manning, Albert Orchard ; 2, Walter Watson Class V. —1, Sarah Southon; 2, Catherine Broderic ; 3, Catherine Cosgrove. Special prizes were awarded to the following children For spelling Harriet Nnnweek, George Watson, and John Southon, Arithmetic—Richard Stanley. Good attendance— Emma Pbilpott. Progress during the year—- ■ Charles Jesson. After the (distribution of the prizes, the children dispersed.
