Oue Tale.—Owing to press of matter, the conclusion of our tale, " Hans and the Devilfish," is held over to to-morrow's issue.

The Goveenoe' Reception.— Arrangements are being made in different quarters of the city to give his Excellency the G-overnor a suitable reception on his arrival in Christchurch. Mr Leahy, of the Oddfellows, has been active among the members of his own and kindred societies, with the object of securing their attendance on the occasion, and the Volunteers, of course, will turn out in honor of the event. We understand also that the city authorities have made application to the East and West Ohristchurch and Normal schools to supply a number of children to sing the national anthem on arrival of the Governor and suite at Cathedral Square, where a platform for the children is to be erected, opposite the tank. Tho railway authorities have made arrangements by which his Excellency will leave Timaru by special train, arriving in Ohristchurch at half-past three o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Hospital.—The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board are to meet this afternoon. Among other business, the Board will consider the report of tho committee appointed to enquire into certain charges brought against the matron of the Hospital. Oxfoed.—At a large public meeting held here yesterday night, resolutions urging the importance of making the district road to Wharfdale, and tho prosecution of the Oxford and Malvern extension of tho railway, were curried unanimously, and memorials embodying the wish of the meeting will be at once forwarded to the proper authorities. Resident Magisteate's Cofet.—ln the Court to-day Richard Harris, a little boy, was charged with stealing from a shop the sum of 2a 6d. Inspector Hickson gave tho boy a very bad character. The boy was ordered to be sont to Burnham for twelvo months. —C. W. Greenwood was charged with embezzling sums, amounting to £ls 19s 9d, the property of C. F. Barker. The case was proceeding when wo went to press.

Citizens' Ball.—Tho working commiU.ro appointed to make arrangements for the oitizpiiB 1 ball, to be given in honor of the Governor's arrival in Chri»tchureb, mnt this atternoon, and took the necopsary s'epp towards the end in view. In further reference to this subject the. Major received a telegram at noon this day from the Hon. J. T. Fisher, to the effect that his Excellency and suite accepts the invitation to a public ball. The Governor's Reception.—lt will bo seen by an advertiseJient in another column that the members of the Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge of Oddfellows are requested to meet at the hall on Saturday next at 3 p.m. sharp, for the purpose of joining in tho procession for tho reception of the Governor. Accident AT Raea.ia.--A man, named Chai'les Hazard, working for Mr |Cleary, at Rakaia, met witli an accident on Wednesday last, when he was in charge of a horse and dray, and, by some means, falling to the ground, the cart wheels pissed over one of his legs. He thought nothing much of the matter then, although tho leg was very tonder whore the wheel had passed over it; but the leg gradually got worse, till at last he could not move about, and last evening ho was admitted to the Hospital. As the limb is very much Bwollen, it is not yet known whether any bones are broken.
