THE CANTERBURY CRICKETING TOUR. * CANTERBURY v BOHEMIANS. BY SUBMARINE CABLE. [from ouk special correspondent.] Melbourne, January 16. The match against the Bohemians was corn* menced yesterday, when Canterbury won the toes and was the first to take the wickets. The heat was intense and produced a marked effect upon the Canterbury men. The wicket was an excellent one. For Canterbury the principal scorers were Neilson, W. Frith and Ollivier, who all played highly creditable innings. For the Bohemians Robinson played a good innings of 34. But the innings of Campbell, who punished the rather loose bowling of Canterbury in the most terrific manner, was the feature of: the day’s play, and unhappily he is not yet out. The fielding of Canterbury was good, and, considering the intensity of the heat, highly creditable to the endurance of the team, who are not yet used to the burning suns of Victoria. The following are the scores up to last night:— Canterbury, First innings. Ollivier, c Campbell, b Mcbivoy 27 Ashby, c Campbell, b McEvoy 14 Baker, c Campbell, b Wilkie 6 Neilson, c Wilkie, b McEvoy 33 W.
