CHRISTCHTJRCH. Tuesday, Apeil 16. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., E.M.] Illegally on Pbemises. —William Kidney, charged with being found illegally in the stables at Lodge's boarding house, was discharged with a caution. Lunacy feom Dbink. —Annie Walsh, who had been remanded on this charge, and was now recovered, was discharged. Wiee Desebtion.—W. A. Palmer was charged on remand from Timaru with deserting his wife and six children. Mrs Palmer stated that her husband left her on 26th February. He made an agreement to pay her £2 per week. He sent her £1 103, and she had not seen him or received anything from him since. She had been assisted by the Q-overnment. Accused asked the Bench to remand the !case for a week ; he had been in custody for a fortnight, and had been unable to make any provision for his family. In reply to his Worship, accused said that during the wool season he could make from £l3O to £150; in the winter months he earned at times from £2 to £3 per week. Mrs Palmer told the Bench that she only desired an order for the support of her children, she wanted nothing for herself. His Worship told accused he had known all about him for a long time, and he did not think he would ever do any good for himself or any one else. It was his opinion that accused would never pay anything, no matter what order was made, |but he would merely mention to him that a new Act was now in force, and if he (accused) would not work outside he would have to work inside. He would be ordered to pav £1 10s weekly. On the application of Mrs" Palmer, his Worship granted an order protecting her children, also to have the custody of her children. Slaughtek - House Licenses. James Fisher applied for a private license to slaughter on his premises, Bection 21, South Heathcote. The applicant said he only intended to slaughter two or three sheep per week for his own convenience. The application was opposed by Messrs Fisher 1 and Packer/ who however said they would not oppose the applicant to kill more than the number of sheep stated by him. Preparations \ had been made for erecting abattoirs on a ! large Bcale. Mr Fisher said he had so intended at first, but when he found his neighbours objected he had determined not to ■ let the premises * ol ' abattoirs. Cattle Trespass.—James Robinson was fined 5s and costs. A case against Garforth and Lee was dismissed on payment of costs. Assault. —G-eorge White was accused by John Worgan of this offence. Mr H. N. Nalder apeared for defendant. The evidence showed that on April 4fch plaintiff, in trying to get into a railway carriage in a crowd at the Lyttelton station, pushed roughly past a lady, his stick striking her in the eye, and her arm being hurt. White (the defendant) then caught hold of Worgan, turned him round, and said it was a blackguardly action. The Bench dismissed the case.
