Something new in wedding presents! Amongst the gil'ts received by a young Auckland couple the other day, was a three-pound tin of the famous cigarotto tobacco, Riverhead Gold, and as both tho bride and groom love a whiff, this very unconventional bridal offering was highly appreciated by them. Of the ordinary stereotyped wedding gifts there was no lack, and duplicates wero as numerous as usual on these occasions. Tho big tin of “Eivorhead” occupied a prominent placo amongst the other things and attratced much attention. Tho donor of tho tobacco lias set, an oxamplo ■’veil worthy of imitation. His present was one that any “happy pair” would he sure to welcome. Riverhead Gold, it is scarcely necessary to add, is tho loading cigarette tobacco, another famous cigarette brand being Desert Gold, while for the pipe smoker the three blonds, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish and Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), are also universal favourites. You’ll find them on asle wherever you go, a convincing proof of their popularity. But intending buyers are cautioned to beware of imitations. Encountering bud weather on Paekakariki Hill on Wednesday afternoon, the Gospel ship “Israel,” which left Wellington for Auckland on Monday, capsized and was rather badly damaged. The master, Mr. Laurence Beavis, was guiding his craft as it was being towed up the lull by a motor lorryv when a sudden squall heeled the vessel on its side into some gravel. Extensive repairs are indicia,ted and" the barquentine will not be able to proceed for some time.
