Community singing was enjoyed at tho delightfully informal tea party given by Mrs. J. Davis, at her homo in Russell street, on Wednesday afternoon as a farewell to Airs. L. N. Harris. Spring bulbs were used with artistic effect in the decoration of tho drawingroom and the same lovely blooms wero chosen for the adornment of the charmingly arranged tea table •in the diningroom. Mrs. Davies, who in her part of hostess was assisted by her daughter, Airs. K. Rosie, was wearing a becoming frOck of black georgette printed in a floral design. Airs. Rosie wore a graceful frock of Bur- : .gundy red corded silk braidted in gold. Tho guest of honour was smart in a frock of tabac brown liberty silk with white trimmings, a hat to match and .y fur coat.

A FAREWELL PARTY. Yesterday afternoon the mid-week lady members of the Gisborne Park Golf Club arranged a delightful tea party at the homo of Airs. L. L. Winter, Palmerston Road, as a farewell to a popular follow member, Mrs L. N. Harris, who is making her futuro home in Auckland. The guests, numbering between kO and 40, were welcomed by four hostesses, Alesdames L. L. Winter, W. Hall, F. AVilliams and J. Johnstone. Decorations of Iceland poppies, shading from cream to deep orange, combined with spring bulbs created an atmosphere of charm. Four diverting competitions were arranged ’ for the ■ entertainment «ji" the guests and the respective winners—Alesdames L. N. Harris, Fox, C. E. Robinson and A. Russell iverc/ each rewarded with an attractive gift. Vocal solos were also charmingly rendered by Mesdames C. E. Robinson and Alartin, and community singing, with Airs. R. Thomson at the piano, was entered into with enthusiasm. A delectable afternoon tea was served informally and later Airs. Johnstone asked Airs. Harris to accept a handsome brass topped table with tho good wishes of the guests for her futuro happiness. A lovely posy of spring blooms was also presented to Airs Harris by Airs. Winter. •Speaking on behalf of the weekend lady members, Aliss Kay regretted Mrs. Harris’ departure from Gisborne and wished her a happy and prosperous future. The gifts and. good wishes were acknowledged in a very happy manner by the guest of honor. ' ROWING CLUB DANCE. Complete success attended the very jolly dance organised by the members of the Roverty Bay Rowing Club in the clubhouse, Bright Street, on Wednesday night. L Filled to overflowing the danccroom presented an animated scene, tho effective black and’ white decorations forming an attractive, setting for the dancers.

The floor was efficiently supervised by Mr F. Gardner, and Airs. Alenzies’ orchestra was in splendid form, the musicians responding most generoujly to the repeated demands for encore numbers. Pleasing extras were contributed by Air. Hill.

The programme of modern and old timo dances went with a swing from beginning to end, and the various competitions, which were entered into with keen enthusiasm resulted as under: Monte Carlo waltz: Mrs. Fachc and Mr. R. Scott; lucky number, Miss L. Taylor; Monte Carlo tox trot, Miss D. Holt and Mr N. Anderson ; statue log cabin, Mrs. Corcoran and Mr. Polman.

A delicious supper ipas served under the direction of Mesdames Warren, W. Thompson, and Misses M. Webb, Warren and M. Torrie, the club members waiting on the many guests most assiduously. CARD PARTY A very successful flag 500 tournament was conducted by the members of the committee of the, Afangapapa Girl Guide Company in the Scout and Guide Hall on Tuesday night. The players were accommodated at eight tables, and honours were on nexetl by Alesdames Hudson, Simpson, T. Ellery and Aliss H. Watkins. Lange, who represented the local institute at the Dominion conference, gave an interesting account of tho business and social Activities, stressing tho great purpose and usefulness of tho movement.-The competitions were poorly supported, there being only Ilf entries.
