Tho Paris correspondent of Tho Times says that thousands of holiday makers at the seaside resort of St. Tropex, who were, watching with interest the French submarine Atalante attempting To sink tho blazoig yacht Hippocamps fled panic stricken when the shells began- to land among them. The Hippocamps, laden with four tons of petrol, had caught fire end was menacing harbor craft. The* Atalante, responding to tho owners’ appeals, tried to tow her to the open sea. She broke loose and so tlio Atalante attempted to sink her. The first shot from a. 75-millimetro gun landed near gendarmerie ashore. The) second severed an electric cable and damaged, a .sawmill, and the third fell on the beach. ... . s The yacht was not. scuppered until the eighteenth shot had been tired. Tho Minister of Marine has ordered an inquiry to be held immediately the Atalante reached port.
