GISBORNE PROVINCIAL DISTRICT In connection with the N.Z. centennial celebrat eti.-i in 1910. the national committee has dec’ded, as way previously published in. the Times, that Poverty Ray and the East Coast shall be a -separate provincial district. “la .suggesting tier idea-,” slates a letter from the Si nister of Internal A (Fairs, the? Perry, read at the meeting of tire .Borough Council last night, “the committee- was girded not merely by the fact of t! r‘ district having little geucal community ’iif intc.ref.it with the rest of Auckland Province, but particularly' by its rich historical ‘associations. The area, suggested for the provincial,d : *- brict was the Borough of- Gisborne, the* counties of Cook, Waikolui. Uawa, Waiapu and Malabooa and the town dish ids of Pstutahi,’ Te .Ka.raka and Mangaapa.” 'l’he Mayor was invited to convene a conference for the purpose olj slitting up a- provincial centennial cou-n----ci I. The Mayor said ho had convened a conference of local bodies as mentioned it; the circular to be held on August 31. He thought they should congratulate them on being made a separate provincial district. In addition to the local bodies he had also issued an invitation toy-the 30,000 Club, the Employers’ Association, Labor Representation Committee, Sir A-pira.ua Ngata and! Air G. Hultquist, M.P.. for the Bay of Plenty, to be present. He asked the council to appoint two representatives to attend the meeting. Crs. H. E. Maude and H. Holmes were appointed.
