Determination to follow the career of aviator has at last brought its reward to Air Harry Sergeant, of Wanganui, who, according to news received, lias been appointed to the Egyptian aerodrome controlled by Imperial Airways. Air Sergeant is particularly well-known in that to followed the late Sir Charles Kingsford Smith wherever lie travelled in New Zealand, often tramping hundreds of miles with requests to be admitted to the great airman’s employ. At last, however, the boy’s determination won Sis Charles’ approval, and he allowed him to accompany his party on a tour of the Dominion. He finally gained the promise that if he could travel to Sydney Sir Charles would use his influence to get him a position. 'The boy tried to stowaway on the,' Monterey, but was brought back to Auckland. He reached his objective a lew months later on and was given a position at the Alascot Aerodrome, obtaining his pilot’s license last year. He recently celebrated his 21st birthday. Pinned under his overturned .motortruck for an hour before he could be released, Mr Graham Umbers had a fortunate escape from injury. The accident occurred on a hill near Olnira, the truck going over a bank and turning a somersault. A fence prevented it from rolling to the bottom of a deep gully. Air H. Howie, driver of a motor-bus, and Air J. Kooney, a passenger, worked for an hour before they could release- Mr Umbers, who, apart from minor scratches and shock, was not injured,
