COUNTRY RACE CLUBS MINISTER PROPOSES AMALGAMATIONS 'Press AssociationL WELLINGTON, July 3. The Amalgamation of some country racing clubs 1 holding totaliator permits with but few miles separating racecourses on which their meetings are held was mentioned by the Minister for Internal Affairs (Mr Parry) at a aacing dub deputation as a possible happening in the future. Air Parry stated that lie was, and would bo ml ways,, in favor of the country race-phis-picnic meeting, where, ho said, country folk could pleasantly mingle and enjoy themselves. But. under present conditions, many of those c-lubs were impecunious aud numbers were faced with kahili ties. Ho considered that, some clubs unite near to one another could amalgamate, making one strong club, which could hold meetings of interest to all. The total: an tor permits would be held in the country, thus saving; permits from going- to possibly some of the city clubs of the Dominion. ”1 Hunk it.’ would be a service in very many ways”, said Mr -parry “il in one or two- •dfst-ricts’ two or even three clubs for that matter were seriously to consider amalgamation into one- strong club and that club to take the totalisator permits ” TREXTHAAI SCRATCHINGS (Press Association!. WELLINGTON, July 3. Additional serat-ehings at 11 30 this morning were Paksmui, from tho Whyte Handicap and Cotslield from the Mariri Steeplechase.. Pa-kanui remains in tho Stewards’ Handicap.— P.A. Later. Pakanui has been scratched for both engagements for tho first day at Trenthiun;—P.A. NOTES ANI) NEWS. Three starts for three wins is the record of Streamline over hurdles, and lie will be a strong South Island contender for honours at Trentham next week. He has not raced since Easter, and may not be quite wound up for the first day, but the AYinter Hurdles should see him at his best. His last two races were each won over a two-mile course. Streamline is a half-brother, by Day Comet, to the New Zealand and Auckland Cup winner, Fast Passage.

Count Willonyx, the winner of the Dannevirke Hunt Cup, was making his debut as a steeplechaser, hut ho had some good hurdling form to recommend him. Wednesday’s field was weak, but Count Willonyx is a good jumper and a solid little stayer, so that his prospects in the hack steeplechases at Trentham cannot be dismissed if lie makes the trip.

Southerners expect Hunting Go to show up among the hack hurdlers at Trentham. Ho has been fourth and second in two starts over the obstacles. The track conditions there will suit his breed.

linn ting Star, a winner at Dannevirke, belongs to a successful family, being a brother to Huntingdon and a half-brother to Polar and Collision. Juke the Hunting Songs, ho can haudlo winter going. He is rising eight years now and ho beat a weak lot atlas last start, but his form will probably eneourago his connections to go on to Trentham with him.

Vocal (Whyte Handicap) and Lycldas (Winter Hurdles) were accepted in error, and they have been withdrawn from those engagements next week.

Although Lord Vyl is getting on in years he lias recently run fairly well, being prominent at the finish ol the King George Handicap at Lifers lie and fourth in ’ the Opotiki Cup at Tauranga last week, lie is one of the best performed winter horses at. Trentham in recent years. His best efforts were in 19.32', when ho was beaten a nose by Ohiel Link the first day, dead-heated with him the second day. and on the third day they did nut meet, hut both won their races. Last year Lord Vai ‘was third in the Whyte and second in the Winter Oats. He has been schooling over hurdles at Ellerslie, and for Tuesday next he paid up in the hack hurdle race in preference to the Whyte Handicap.

Kohika, tho winner of the Takapau Novice Stakes at tho Hauuevirko Hunt fixture, had never previously raced, thopgli ho is a six-year-old gelding; in fact, he was named ohly a few days ago. He is a brown by Lacklnun from Native Queen, by Mountain Knight l’rorn Native Lady, bv Formative. Ho was bred by Mr W. Simpson, of Eketahuna, and .s raced jointly by Messrs. N. Bicknel!, o'. Pahiatua, and A. J. Moxted, of Napier. As he was an unknown quantity to racegoers his price was a long one, and he was a good consolation rido for'S. Wilson, who went to tho meeting with only one mount, First Hand, another in Alchemic being scratched.

At Riccarton the other morning Polydora was sent alono over four hurdles. She was not at top speed, l»ut she gave a brilliant exhibition of lumping. It was her first school since slie resumed work, and . she looks a great prospect for Riccarton next month. She will not be at Trentham, hut the Christchurch Hunt meeting will provide opportunity for a race over hurdles before she takes on the qrniid National Hurdles,.

Hazoor, who lias been racing well since ho made his reappearance '•» tho autumn, lias only one engagement—the Parliamentary Handicap—at tho Wellington meeting. The distance of that event will suit him -admirably, for ho has won on three occasions over a middle distance within the last couplo of months, ill's most recent success was in the Empire Handicap, run over ono mile and a distance, at Wanganui, and that form will entitle him to sideration at Trentham. * & Hunter’s Morn, an acceptor in the Woburn Handicap, to be decided gn the first day of the Wellington meeting, is a four-year-old gelding by Hunting Song from Tino Atua. At the Hawke’s Bay meeting held last April he won the Electric Handicap, six furlongs, beating, among others, Blue Shirt, who has been .successful on two occasions, subsequently. Hunter’s Morn, who is trained by W. I). Turnbull at Gisborne, should luv worth keeping in mind for Ilia engagements at Trentham. * * * Miss Winston, tho winner of a hack steeplechase on the second day and the Dunedin Steeplechase on the final day of tho Dunedin meeting, may ho seen in similar events at Trentham next week. She is nine years old and she has not done a great deal of racing among the jumpers, as slip commenced only this season. Early this winter she was twice second to Para sang, while at Riverton she was second to Palm, prior to winning on the last day. Miss Winston is bred on jumping lines. Her sire, Tractor, lias left a number of useful jumpers, while her dam, Lady Winston by Vico Admiral from Busybody, was a. good performer over country in Southland, her successes including two Great. Western Steeplechases. also tho Of,outau and Southland Steeplechases. * - ♦- An Invercargill report states that A. J. Peart has been offered the riding on Piuiehestown at Wellington. Peart lias charge of Parasang and Signaller on the trip north. R. E. Thompson will ride Travelling Agent and Black Alan. C. T. AYilsou will ride Fair Weather and Epris. « * * A Afek .amnio P.A. cable states: Owing to the incessant rain and the prospects of further rain, the V.R.C. stewards aro meeting to-dav at 9 o’clock to decide whether the Flemington track is safe for the Grand National Hurdles. * * * Vocal has been showing good form i’i the south recently, and as lie likes soft going he will probably have conditions to suit- him at Trentham next week. At the last Dunedin meeting Vocal finished third in tho Birthday Handicap, one mile, and inn tho Southern Hack Handicap, one mile and a nuarter. repeating exactly the same form ho had shown at tho corresponding mooting twelve months before. Vocal is by Hunting Song from Alfsslove. I>v General Latonr. and is engaged in the Te Aro Handicap on Tuesday next.

Royal Dance is stated to be going along the right way at Alatanuita and is to be taken to Trentehain to fulfil engagements there. On tho first day he is engaged in the Stewards’ Handicap, and on his form this season ho is likely to bo troublesome, lor ho can sprint well in either hard or soft going. At Avondale in the spring In was the leader into tho straight in tho Champion Hack Plato, seven furlong:?, and Nun Nicccr beat him narrowly. At the Auckland Spring meeting Alazir beat him over six furlongs in a division of the Gordon Handicaj), Tray Bit being the only ono to finish in front ol him in the Hobson Handicap, seven furlongs, on the second day. Tray Bit again boat him over a similar distance at tlio Takapuna spring meeting, hut ut tho Auckland summer meeting Royal Danco won the Newmarket Handicap, the open sprint. on New Year’s Day. He fell on tho second day of the To Arolia meeting, and he was not raced again till tho recent Waikato winter meeting, when ho won the Stewards’ Handicap, six furlongs.
