STAY-IN STRIKE
BRITAIN’S FIRST EXPERIENCE. a LASTS 3 HOURS AT WOOLWICH ARSENAL. (U.P.A. by Nice Tel. Copyright). (Received July 4, 1.7 a.m.) LONDON, July 3. Britain's first stay-in strike lasted threo hours. Some' 260 workers at Woolwich Arsenal ceased work at mid-day and the doors of cno of the largest shops producing bullets and shells were locked. Stewards representing the men conferred with tho department superintendent who agreed that their grievances should receive thorough investigation, whereupon work was resumed. The chief point of the dispute related to the system fixing the payment of piecework. The strikers’ representatives state that there was no bitterness and that the. affair was settled. There was certain to be no trouble for a long time.
