: • It ACE FOR TOGO VOTES RPGBY CHAMPIONS TO BE iKNOWN ON JULY 11 The names of the four best footballers hr the district in connection with the'Festival of Sport will be decided by Messrs T. French, F’. McNeil, and K. R. Waite and will be announced on July 11. By courtesy of the Cosmopolitan Club, the four billiard and snooker champions will be decided at the club's tables. Play will be for 250 up for billiards and snooker, the, bbs-fc of three games. Entries close oh July S, and the entrance fee is 2s 6d. Keen competition is running for the 1000 bonus to be allocated to-day for the candidate in the most popular sport contest who pod Is the greatest number of votes this wegk. The Rugby supporters of Mr H. B. Wiil::ams have boon active and their; lodgement to-day should be substantial. Mr H. H. DeCosta’s golf eomini ittee, which received the last bonus has a. sum which it thinks will he sufficient to maintain its candidate at the top of the poll. The cricket and tennis committee supporting Mr V. c: R. Mitford has had a. number of functions lately and also had advised .that it has many votes to lodge. The general committee of the festival will meet to-night at the Borough Council chamber's when several important matters will come up for discussion. • SURPRISE PACKET HAY The festival committee has decided to hold a surprise packet day at an early date when sixpenny packets will be sold From a lorry in the street. Mr W. Lints and Mrs Harper have visited many establishments and have been accorded a kindly welcome, liberal gifts being donated. The remainder of the to.'n will be gradually canvassed. These gifts arc for incluson in the packets, which will be wrapped up bv a. staff of helpers. Several farmers have offered donations, and more are needed from all sources. Donations to the surprise packet effort should ho .sent to the festival office, Peel street, next to Berwick’s mart. The element of surprise contained in the packet should prove- a good draw and the value of each packet will be guaranteed to be well worth, the sixpence. The proceeds Will go towards the improvement of local sports grounds.
