PERSONAL. (Special to the Times). Air. S; Al. Jeplison, of Opotiki, has, accepted an, invitation to. as judge of the grade and commercial pig classes at the annual Show, at Gisborne. WOODLANDS W.I. A social evening at which the husbands were the guests of honor was held by the Woodlands Women’s institute on Friday evening. A paper bag blowing competition, ladies v. , men, created much, amusement, being won by the ladies. A test lor the men in walking across the hall carrying -a balloon on a knife and placing ' it in a billy was won by Air. A. Bollard. Air. Payne gained first prize for sewing on the most buttons in a given time. Excellent expositions of the Irish Jig, sailors’ hornpipe, and a tap-dance were greatly appreciated by the audience, as were two elocutionary items by Air. 11. Warrington, A novelty dance was won by Airs. Warrington and Air. King. Dancing was indulged in to the excellent music supplied by Aliss Patience with an | extra by Mrs. Bollard.’ The duties oi AJ,.C. were capably carried out by Air. A. Dodgson. On bciialf of the men, Air,. S'. Maxwell thanked the ladies for the enjoyable evening, while Airs. Fisher returned thanks on behalf of the Opotiki Institute, and Airs. Gault for Otara. WELCOME HOME. A welcome home .party was hMr at the residence of Air,, and Airs, G. ! B. Guthrie, Kelly street, on Saturday I evening, the guests being Air. and Airs. R. Cuff, who had returned from

their honeymoon tour. Numerous items were given by the members ;ot the company and the bride was presented with a cut giass ornament as an expression of the good wishes of all present.
