BABIES IN AIR RAID
GAS-PROOF CRADLE INVENTED
Gas-proof “cradles’’ for babies being nursed by their mothers have been invented by a group of Sovietdoctors arid engineers working at the Moscow Sanitary-Chemical Institute. Each “cradle” consists of a bag equipped with gas filters. The bag completely encloses the child, and is joined by a tube to the mask! worn by the mother. Her breathing draws purified air iritb the child’s bag as well as her own mask. A cellophane window in the bag allows her to watch the child. .
These “cradles” can also be attached to air reservoirs—large gas-proor sacks containing a supply of purified air, which is replenished by means ot bellows. As many as 15 to 20 children can breathe from one such reservoir. it is stated. Full tests have been made of the new apparatus and it is claimed to be so successful that mass .production will probably soon begin. Young children, the-designers state, are unable to breathe when wearing an ordinary mask.
