In the early hours of this morning, a. burglar -was ( disturbed while in' the act. .of -breaking into the* East Gore store of Messrs. ■ Mac Gibbo- ' and Company. . He,, esoaped in . a -ear which was recognised as that reported from Invei’cargill : as. having been stolen,from Otatara on Tuesday-even-ing. •:(The driver of the car charged a constable who was attempting to intercept his:.flight. . n.

There appeared to be nothing wrong,;-but the constable’s .attention Was attracted by, a,.motor- car standing outside the premises of Messrs. Mac Gibbon and Coy. across the road. He went over to investigate,. but the intruder had apparently been .warned by tho constable’s investigations at the service station aud lie was already in the car. As the constablo,approached, he started up the car and charged straight at the constable- who was forced to jump out of the way. and the car disappeared across the bridge. ..-An inspection of the store revealed that the front door had been forced with,-.-a tyro lever or other,.similar instrument, but- nothing appeared to have been taken.
