EARLY SETTLERS (To the Editor.) Sir,— Accept our thanks lor so generously publishing the list of early settlers, and may I cra-ve a further small space in your columns to make a few -remarks. It is but two- months since of my own freewill I undertook to compile a list and collect the subscriptions, so- that under the circumstances there- are sure to be some errors, although I have done,by best with what I could gather. As it is intended to publish ail names' in book form, we would like to have them a-s accurate as possible, so I would ask any whose dates are not- correct to communicate with -either the secretary or. myself, sending the ' correct dates and we will have them attended to-. We intend to keep on enrolling ail who- are desirous to he associated with its with 1 the view of having a monster picnic before the end of this year sor that settlers and their families may attend. Further lists of names will lie published. What- we seek is that those who were- here prior to 1894 and their descendants will furnish us with name, address, and year of their or their parents’ arrival in ilio district, and -a-s 1 the yearly subscription is only 2s 6d it is within the reach of all. Let us make the association worthy of the most lii-storu oal port in New Zealand. And for the information of those “buSybodics”, who say that lam paid for this, I wish to state that 1 do not receive one penny for my labor, the gratitude shown on the- smiling faces of those ‘old ‘women” at that recent happy gathering being recompense abundant for it all.—l am. etc.. .
